Ford spends £190m to renovate its Dagenham plant

Ford is planning to invest £190 million on its Dagenham plant in order to produce ultra-clean engines in the future. These engines will not only comply with Euro 6 standard of carbon emissions, but you will also pay lower congestion charge when driving around in London. Ford says that the new ultra clean engines are designed to meet London’s planned congestion charge increase on diesel engines. Ford says that this expansion will generate around 300 new jobs at the plant while helping to secure another 318 jobs.

They further added that the investment of this £190m is being made for a better future of diesel cars in UK. This massive funding will be pumped-in for development and expansion purposes and for a new building to host the new ultra low emission 2.0 Litre engine. This engine will serve commercial vehicles that are the back bone of Ford’s UK sales. The all new ultra low emission engine is most likely to come in the new Mondeo and Focus family car along with commercial models like Transit vans by 2018.

Ford officials said that this investment is in response to Boris Johnson’s announcement of increasing congestion charges on diesel engines and reducing the emissions to ultra-low levels. Congestion charges are already in place for all diesel engines that are not Euro 6 compliant.

Prior to vision 2020, Ford has sprung into action to make their engines ultra-clean. New diesel engines have been designed and developed at new production facility within the Dagenham plant. Ford said that the main focus is on reducing the NOx gases because these are crucial in the cities with a higher level of traffic. Ford is also planning to invest a total of £1.5 billion in environmental friendly vehicles in the coming five years.
