Audi is gearing up to take on the Tesla model X with its all-electric SUV with a range of 300 miles

Audi has launched an all-electric larger size SUV along with R8 e-tron at Geneva Motor Show. Engineering boss Dr Ulrich Hackenberg stated that the R8 e-tron was “a technical light tower”. He also confirmed that Audi R8 will be used as an inspiration to build the larger family sized zero emission SUV.

An official press release on the R8 e-tron supercar showed that the findings from the project will definitely help in developing the new saloon and the SUV as a next generation zero-emission model. The new technology will be available first on the Audi Q7 engine and powertrains.

The new SUV will cover almost 300 miles which will benefit large families. These figures will give a strong competition to the present top spec tesla model X because of being a first ever all-electric SUV as an alternative to petrol and diesel hybrids. “It’s a more passenger orientated car, so for more than two passengers. But it will be a car which can be used by families that have some money it is premium. It will have a big battery capacity and a range of more than 500km (313 miles), we will make a presentation soon.” Hackenberg revealed.

Unlike the Q7 which is a diesel-electric plug-in Hybrid vehicle the new SUV will be totally different in shape and design than of any existing models. “It will have a specific design, so we won’t take and A6 or a Q5 or whatever and integrate the battery electric drivetrain,” he further added that the new SUV will be based on MLB platform, which clearly means that Audi engineers can work with steel and mixture of materials including aluminium to make the SUV more dynamic in design and built quality.
