Mercedes E 350d Coupe

An Insight into the Mercedes E 350d

Overview

The name Mercedes is not unfamiliar in the world of automobile. The company is well known for the attractive exterior, superb interior, comfort and the luxury in cars. The latest E Class Coupe is undoubtedly one of the best machine running on the roads of nearly all over the world. It is also available as a four door saloon.

We can get the E Class Coupe with two diesel and two petrol engines. The E220d diesel model is comparatively economical. Whichever we pick, we get adaptive suspension as standard. Which helps the Mercedes iron to perform well on roads. As well as in the field of comparison with other famous competitors like BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen.

The stylish E Class Coupe is well worth considering. If we want a comfortable motorway cruiser which is easy to drive as well as good in looks .The Mercedes E Class cabin is perfect choice for that.

Interior

In Mercedes E Class we get a gorgeous swooping dashboard design with a bank of cold to the touch metal switches and glossy trims on the center console. Also standard stainless steel pedals and wrap of lovely unvarnished ash wood trims on the dashboard. The front seats slide forward automatically. Glossy leather seats fits you in and makes you feel superbly comfortable in a long drive.

There is enough legroom for six feet tall passenger to stretch out. But sadly there is no central seat so you cannot carry three persons in back seat. Fitting a child seat is also awkward. There is only just enough space to squeeze in the seat.

We can flip the back seats down in three way. Split to carry two passengers and some long suit cases at once. With all the seats folded away there is enough space for the adjustment of more luggage. Unfortunately, things are not quite as comfortable comparatively in the back side.

Drive

We can get E Class Coupe with two petrol and two diesel engine with either four or six cylinders. All models come with a nine speed automatic gearbox as standard and high performance. V6 models get four wheel drive also. Its Mercedes E Class 2.0 litre diesel engine is not quite as floaty as the petrol versions. But it will still accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 7.4 seconds. Mercedes claims it will return an impressive 61.4mpg. But expect to see around 50mpg in normal driving conditions.

The E300 petrol version cannot match the diesel version economy. It will deliver around 32mpg in the real world. But it is a little more powerful to help overtaking slow moving traffic. It also grumbles slightly at idle and the artificial engine sounds piped through the car’s speakers make it sound a little more boy racer than luxury coupe.

Both the six cylinder E350d diesel and E400 petrol models are smoother and quieter on the move. But cost significantly more to buy and run. The standard nine-speed gearbox does a good job of slushing through gears and helps make the E Class Coupe dead easy to drive around town. If we use the manual shift paddles on the steering wheel each gear change is accompanied by an unpleasant surge.

There is barely any wind noise even at high speed and you get cruise control as standard. Neither the Audi A7 nor BMW 6 Series are quite as relaxing to drive as the stylish Mercedes.

Models with air suspension have also selectable driving modes. Comfort makes the Mercedes feel as waft as possible while sport mode stiffens up the suspension to stop the heavy coupe from leaning too much in corners.

The E Class Coupe is not quite as easy to see out of as the saloon so it is a touch trickier to thread through tight city streets. The thick pillars where the doors meet the windscreen produce some large blind spots at junctions and the small rear windscreen also makes parking a little nerve wracking. We get front and rear parking sensors. Reversing camera and even a self-parking system that will steer you into bay and parallel spaces automatically as standard.
